Dear Residents, Families and Friends, 

As a follow- up to my last update, I am pleased to advise that today the Department of Health and Human Services formally advised that we can now move to the surveillance stage. This means that as of 12 midnight last night, the ‘surveillance’ period started, and residents will now be able to move freely around the Home and have meals in the dining room. 

This is possible as all residents and staff who were last tested on Saturday 8 August 2020, have returned a negative result, meaning COVID-19 is not detected in any of the tests. 

The Home will continue to monitor closely the health and wellbeing of residents for the 14 days during the ‘surveillance’ stage. During this stage, staff will no longer be required to wear full Personal Protective Equipment when caring for residents. Doutta Galla will however continue to screen staff before they sign in for work each day, they will wear a face covering at all times whilst at work and they will follow hand hygiene and social distancing protocols. In addition, residents will be encouraged and reminded to practice hand hygiene and social distancing. 

We will be able to again facilitate telephone calls, Skype, FaceTime and window visits where possible. Please liaise with the staff to make arrangements for visits with residents for end of life, compassionate or for special circumstances. 

We will advise you immediately of any changes to your or your family member’s health status, however if you have an enquiry or concern please contact Woornack on 9312 0111. In addition, we have set up an email address where you can send any questions, comments or concerns related to COVID-19. The email address is: covid19questions@dgas.org.au. 

Elder Rights Advocacy is also able to provide additional support to family members. You can contact them on 1800 171 866 for COVID-19 related information and support. This phone line is open Monday to Friday 8.30am-6pm. 

We will keep in touch with the nominated resident representative on a regular basis to inform you of any changes to the situation.
