26 February 2021
Dear Residents, Families and Friends,
Thank you for your ongoing support and observance of the COVID safe restrictions that are in place in Victoria. As you know the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews announced today Victoria is again easing some restrictions as of midnight tonight 26 February 2021.
There are no longer any restrictions to the number of nor the length of time of each visit to aged care homes. All visitors are required to continue to follow the Home entry protocols, including signing and completing a health status declaration, and also the “sign-in” register. Whilst visiting the Home we ask that visitors continue to face wear masks and follow all hand hygiene, social distancing and density requirements.
If you plan to visit this weekend, please be patient and considerate of staff, as you may need to wait for staff to allow you entry.
In other news, the rollout of Australia’s COVID-19 (now referred to as SARS-CoV-2) has commenced. Aged care residents and staff will be included in the first phase of the rollout. Although we don’t yet have dates for Doutta Galla Homes, we will advise you as soon as we know more.
To assist residents and families to understand more about the program, and to support decision making as to whether to have the vaccine each resident will receive a ‘Vaccine Information Kit’ with all the relevant information from the Department of Health and the consent form. Staff will be following up with residents and/or their substitute decision maker as only residents who have a completed and signed consent form will be able to receive the vaccine.
For further information about the vaccination program, and to help you with your decision making, please follow the link to the Commonwealth Government Department of Health website; https://www.health.gov.au/Vaccine Information for residential aged care link
Please also talk with your doctor, health professional and family and friends, and please contact the Home if you have any questions or concerns.
If you or your family wish to talk through concerns about the vaccine or the program and/or wish for independent support to assist you with your decision, please reach out to OPAN (Older Persons Advisory Network) on 1800 237 981. They are available 6am-10pm, 7 days a week. The other organisation that can assist you is Elder Rights Advocacy Victoria who can be reached on 1800 171 866.
As the restrictions are lifted can I urge you all to remain vigilant and get tested if you have any COVID symptoms.
Note: As you are aware, communications from Doutta Galla is sent directly to the resident and to the nominated resident representative. If there are additional people in your family who would like to receive communications directly from Doutta Galla can you please let the Home know their details and we can add them to the email list for you.
As a reminder, all of my general communications, including previous letters from me, are available on the Doutta Galla website at https://www.dgas.org.au/coronavirus-updates/ and can be accessed at any time.
