Doutta Galla Aged Services has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to defer the commencement of the new Aged Care Act from 1 July to 1 November 2025, acknowledging the importance of getting the once-in-a-generation reforms right for older Australians, their families, and the aged care sector.
The Hon Sam Rae MP, newly appointed Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, confirmed the brief deferral in an open letter to aged care providers, citing feedback from across the sector requesting more time to prepare clients, support workers, and implement necessary systems.
Minister Rae stated, “We will use this extra time to work with you to help prepare older people for the changes, finalise key operational and digital processes, and produce implementation guidance and training.”
Doutta Galla CEO Glenn Rappensberg said the announcement was timely and constructive.
“We support the decision to defer the new Act in the interests of the aged care sector, the workforce, and most importantly, the people we care for. While the delay allows providers additional breathing room, Doutta Galla has already made significant progress in preparing for the reform,” Mr Rappensberg said.
As part of its readiness program, Doutta Galla has:
- Established a Clinical Services Division, reflecting the importance of clinical governance and enhanced care coordination.
- Reviewed and adapted its In-Home Services to align with the upcoming Support at Home Program.
- Implemented a comprehensive learning and development program to support the transition to the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.
- Launched a new Leadership Program to build capacity and foster leadership across all levels of the organisation.
“These changes position Doutta Galla to deliver high-quality care under the new framework. We remain focused on safety, dignity, and continuity for residents, clients and families as the sector moves through this period of reform,” Mr Rappensberg added.
Doutta Galla continues to work collaboratively with government, sector partners and communities to ensure a smooth transition to the new aged care system.
