As Loneliness Awareness Week 2026 kicks off, we are reminded that 1 in 2 people living in Australia are lonely and/or socially isolated.
Loneliness affects people of all ages, and stages of life.
This year, Doutta Galla Aged Services resident Pam and volunteer Grace, shared their story of friendship, which was captured in a short video by peak body, Ending Loneliness Together.
Doutta Galla’s CEO, Mr Glenn Rappensberg said, “The story of Pam and Grace, highlights how important it is to shift the conversation away from aged care as purely clinical or institutional, toward a more human-centred vision focused on purpose, wellbeing, independence and connection, with the expectation of providing exceptional clinical care.”
“Doutta Galla has been a trusted aged care provider for more than 30 years and we recognise how important care and connection are for people in our homes and within our community.
“Loneliness is one of the most common human experiences, yet it is often the least talked about. We see part of our role in the community as bringing people together and being a part of the social fabric of our neighbourhoods.
This Loneliness Awareness Week, Ending Loneliness Together is celebrating the everyday acts of connection that help people living in Australia feel seen, valued and included, and encouraging everyone to make room for connection at home, work, school and in the community.
Mr Rappensberg said, “We support the message of this years’ Loneliness Awareness Week that connection doesn’t just happen by accident. It grows in the spaces we create for each other.
“At Doutta Galla, we imagine ageing as the start of a new chapter, where you’re not just a resident, you’re a valued person whose story, independence and dignity are always respected.
“We are thrilled to have facilitated Pam and Grace’s friendship, and we celebrate their strong connection,” he said.
