Doutta Galla welcomed the Federal Government’s Budget commitment to deliver more home care packages for older Australians.
Doutta Galla’s CEO, Glenn Rappensberg said, “While providers and older Australians believed this announcement was a message of hope to improve the ageing outcomes and lives of so many in the community; the reality is people continue to wait for support.
“As the home care waitlist exceeds 100,000 people, Doutta Galla acknowledges the difficulties older people in the community are experiencing while they wait to receive their funding for care at home services.
“We appreciate that with the transformational change occurring in the sector there is significant regulatory policy and associated regulations that need to be in place to guide service delivery effectively, however demand continues to grow and the longer people are required to wait to receive the supports they need to live safely at home, the greater the demand for an already stretched residential care system,” he said.
This week, ABC Four Corners presented “The Waiting Game” asking the tough questions of the Federal Government and Minister for Aged Care and Seniors Sam Rae, on behalf of older Australians who are facing significant problems accessing their care through the Support at Home program.
